Saundarya Lahari (The Innundation of Divine Splendour) composed by Shankara, the great Hindu
philosopher, is a work of great literary merit and is looked upon as a sacred work. It is a hymn in praise of the
Divine Mother known as Tripurasundari, in her creative aspect. It includes the technicalities and worship of
the Sri Chakra. It is also a Mantra Sastra and the source of many mantras used in the adoration of the Divine
Mother. The recitation of the hymn, common among devout Hindus, is an adoration of the Divine. It is studied
by the practioners of Sri Vidya and committed to memory by children and adults alike for daily recitation.
In this work, the Divine Mother is worshipped as Tripura - the one who embodies the three Bindus. The hymn
has 100 verses of which the first 49 involve Shakti worship to awaken the sleeping Kundalini, the Sri Chakra
and the mantras in it. The other 59 verses describe the beautiful form of the Divine Mother.
